About
The people behind RE:SONATE.
Melanie Kaiser
Scientist Nurse Climber Musician & DJ
Melanie Kaiser is a postdoctoral scientist at the Salk Institute whose path bridges two worlds rarely brought together: fundamental research and music culture. With a background in nursing, molecular biology, and cancer research, she brings both scientific depth and a deeply human perspective to her work.
Early in her career she worked in palliative care, confronted daily with vulnerability, mortality, and the profound importance of human connection. That experience deepened her sense of how urgently science matters, and sent her back to school to understand the biology of disease and aging at a deeper level. Music remained a constant throughout — over the years she became deeply rooted in the electronic music community, performing as a DJ from Europe to the US, including Burning Man, clubs and festivals across California.
RE:SONATE emerges from that intersection, and from the conviction that science should not remain confined to academic or institutional spaces but be translated into forms that invite broader cultural connection. She is also driven by the belief that science should serve people directly — helping us live healthier, remain active, and age well. As a rock climber, she knows how deeply movement shapes both body and mind.
Armin Buchroithner
Climber Scientist Film Maker Entrepreneur
Armin Buchroithner holds an MSc and PhD in mechanical engineering and works as a senior scientist leading research on structural health monitoring, energy storage, renewable power, and sustainable mobility.
As founder of Style of Gravity he worked as cameraman, producer, and press photographer for GoPro, Red Bull, and Austrian and German national television, and his films took more than a dozen international festival awards. Film production and editing has introduced him to the electronic music realm and he organized several EDM events with international attendance. He climbed as a sponsored athlete for seven years, and he founded NEWTON, a company now running two climbing gyms and coffee shops in Austria. Climbing and science are what connect him — among many more things — to Melanie, and RE:SONATE comes out of the same overlap on his side: the discipline of research, and the instinct to put it in front of an audience.
